An audition video for the NBC reality series The Apprentice. The video served its purpose, in that the aspiring contestant was tapped for an in-person interview, but he did not proceed further in the competition.

The Apprentice audition video was a quick piece I did for a coworker, based on an idea I stole outright from one of the original Project Greenlight director’s bio videos. I really liked the notion of taking the single thread of a story and shooting it at several different locations, then editing it together into a single, apparently straightforward narrative. I also wanted to get away from the ‘vital statistics’ notion of a bio video, and go with a story that illustrated the characteristics the competitor wanted to emphasize. The entrant put together the story on his own, we shot it over a couple of hours one afternoon, I edited it over the following weekend, and we sent it in. He was called back for an in-person interview — so from my perspective, the video was a success — but alas, that was where his journey ended.
