Tohubohu News: July 2017

Whew! We haven’t even screened our DC 48 Hour Film Project film “The Rest of Your Life” yet, and we’re already scrambling to complete preparations for the Richmond 48 Hour Film Project this coming weekend!

For the DC event , we had a choice between making either a martial arts or a coming-of-age film, and we opted for the latter. As can all-too-frequently happen, both the writing and shooting proved more challenging than expected, leading to a particularly taxing weekend. (Check out our Twitter feed for a blow-by-blow recap as events unfurled.) But in the end, we did get our finished film in on time, and “The Rest of Your Life” will be premiering this Thursday evening at 7:30 at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center (with Group A) — grab your tickets ASAP (and check out our Facebook event page for more info)!

But there will be scant time to celebrate, as the very next evening we’ll be embarking on the Richmond 48 Hour Film Project competition! Other than the kickoff and drop-off events, we’ll be working locally, so if anyone wants to make themselves available, let us know quickly, since time is running out! Our premiere screening (with Group B) will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, at the Grace Street Theater in Richmond — so if you’d like to see the results of our work, be sure to get your tickets before they sell out!

In other news since our last newsletter, “The Writer’s Dilemma” screened at the Art All Night Trenton Film Festival in Trenton, New Jersey, and “The Greater Evil” at the East Van Showcase in Vancouver, British Columbia. “Tex: Wisdom of the Old West” showed at the North Beach American Film Festival in North Beach, Maryland (alas, while we were filming “The Rest of Your Life,” leaving us unable to attend in person), and “The Greater Evil” traveled to Italy for the Salento Finibus Terrae film series.

Coming up in the weeks ahead are screenings of “Liability” at the Horror Avenue Film Festival; “Winston” at the (appropriately themed) Canine Film Festival; and “Tex,” “The Greater Evil” and “Winston” at the Silver Screen Film Festival (where “The Greater Evil” has already been awarded Best Thriller honors). We just recently received word that “Winston” will screen at the Clifton Film Festival (meaning we’ll have to race back from our Richmond 48HFP screening to attend), and “The Greater Evil” will show at both the Cine Miami Fest and the Global Impact Film Festival. And we’re still looking forward to a massive slate of Tohubohu films at both the Tampa Bay Comic Con and San Francisco Comic Con festivals.

And (fingers crossed) you might want to make room on your calendars for this year’s Best of the 48 Hour Film Project events — Richmond’s will be at 3:00 p.m. on July 30 (at the Grace Street Theater), and DC’s at 7:30 p.m. on August 4 (at the AFI Silver Theatre. No promises, of course, but we have hope…

As usual, check out our current listing of upcoming Tohubohu screenings (with festival links) below, and we’ll be back in touch before long!

Upcoming Tohubohu Festival Screenings

This month’s selected Tohubohu trailer: Naturally, it’s “The Rest of Your Life,” our entry in the 2017 Washington DC 48 Hour Film Project, premiering this Thursday evening at 7:30 at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center!

Tohubohu News: June 2017

Despite being buried with final preparations for the DC 48 Hour Film Project (coming up next weekend, June 23–25, in case it slipped anyone’s mind), we’ve apparently decided we’re not busy enough — because we’re turning around and doing it again immediately afterward! Mark your calendars for July 14–16 and the Richmond 48 Hour Film Project! As usual, Friday (in this case July 14) will be the big event kickoff and scriptwriting session, Saturday (July 15) will be the main shooting day, and Sunday (July 16) will be final editing, postproduction, and submission!

Rest assured that (despite the distant kickoff and drop-off location) we’re still planning to shoot locally. And (fingers crossed), we’re hoping to partner with a top-notch Alexandria-based production company (though I don’t want to say too much for fear of jinxing it). So be sure to let us know if you can join us for this second Tohubohu film outing of 2017!

In other news from the past month or so, “Green House” screened at the Red Shed Film Festival in Rockport, Massachusetts, “Please Forward” appeared at the Kino Zukunft Open-Air Cinema Shorts in Berlin, Germany, and nine Tohubohu films showed at the Ocean City Film Festival in Ocean City, Maryland: “Number One With a Bullet,” “Green House,” “Touched by a Lawyer,” “Remorseless,” “The Writer’s Dilemma,” “Uke & Trust Me,” “Codependence Day,” “Tex: Wisdom of the Old West,” and “The Greater Evil.”

Coming up in the immediate future, two films will be screening just this coming weekend: “The Writer’s Dilemma” at the Art All Night Trenton Film Festival in Trenton, New Jersey, and “The Greater Evil” at the East Van Showcase in Vancouver, British Columbia. “Tex” will show at next weekend’s North Beach American Film Festival in North Beach, Maryland (alas, during our DC 48 Hour Film Project venture), and just a week later, “The Greater Evil” will be crossing the pond for the Salento Finibus Terrae touring film series in Italy’s Apulia region. Speaking of “The Greater Evil,” they’ve already announced that it will be taking Best Thriller honors at the upcoming Silver Screen Film Festival in Tampa, Florida, so we’ve got that to look forward to!

Check out our complete listing (as of now, anyway) of upcoming Tohubohu screenings below!

Upcoming Tohubohu Festival Screenings

This month’s selected Tohubohu trailer: Tohubohu’s first venture into the horror/thriller genre, 2010’s “Liability,” recently shown at the Paura Festival Internacional de Cine de Terror in Valencia, Spain, and soon to be appearing at the Horror Avenue Film Festival in Mattoon, Illinois.

Festivals (and accolades) galore!

When we sent our last message, we had no idea just how much activity we’d be seeing in the months to come — especially since we knew we likely wouldn’t be producing any new content. But wow, there’s been a lot happening.

Back in July, we had indicated a few festivals we anticipated showing at, but the list really ballooned from there. (Though we were disappointed that the shorts portion of the Minutnik International Film and Beer Festival in Šentjernej, Slovenia, was canceled. Not that we planned to attend, but it really sounded like fun. Because beer.)

So let’s catch up with some highlights from just since the last newsletter — put your collective seat belts on…

But we’re hardly done yet — there’s a lot more coming up in the near future:

Whew! A lot to digest there — and I’m sure I’m probably still missing a few things. Thanks for taking the time to get through it all! As always, stay tuned to our social media profiles to get the latest new, and we’ll keep you all updated with the latest developments!
