Tohubohu News: July 2017

Whew! We haven’t even screened our DC 48 Hour Film Project film “The Rest of Your Life” yet, and we’re already scrambling to complete preparations for the Richmond 48 Hour Film Projectthis coming weekend!

For the DC event , we had a choice between making either a martial arts or a coming-of-age film, and we opted for the latter. As can all-too-frequently happen, both the writing and shooting proved more challenging than expected, leading to a particularly taxing weekend. (Check out our Twitter feed for a blow-by-blow recap as events unfurled.) But in the end, we did get our finished film in on time, and “The Rest of Your Life” will be premiering this Thursday evening at 7:30 at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center (with Group A) — grab your tickets ASAP (and check out our Facebook event page for more info)!

But there will be scant time to celebrate, as the very next evening we’ll be embarking on the Richmond 48 Hour Film Project competition! Other than the kickoff and drop-off events, we’ll be working locally, so if anyone wants to make themselves available, let us know quickly, since time is running out! Our premiere screening (with Group B) will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, at the Grace Street Theater in Richmond — so if you’d like to see the results of our work, be sure to get your tickets before they sell out!

In other news since our last newsletter, “The Writer’s Dilemma” screened at the Art All Night Trenton Film Festival in Trenton, New Jersey, and “The Greater Evil” at the East Van Showcase in Vancouver, British Columbia. “Tex: Wisdom of the Old West” showed at the North Beach American Film Festival in North Beach, Maryland (alas, while we were filming “The Rest of Your Life,” leaving us unable to attend in person), and “The Greater Evil” traveled to Italy for the Salento Finibus Terrae film series.

Coming up in the weeks ahead are screenings of “Liability” at the Horror Avenue Film Festival; “Winston” at the (appropriately themed) Canine Film Festival; and “Tex,” “The Greater Evil” and “Winston” at the Silver Screen Film Festival (where “The Greater Evil” has already been awarded Best Thriller honors). We just recently received word that “Winston” will screen at the Clifton Film Festival (meaning we’ll have to race back from our Richmond 48HFP screening to attend), and “The Greater Evil” will show at both the Cine Miami Fest and the Global Impact Film Festival. And we’re still looking forward to a massive slate of Tohubohu films at both the Tampa Bay Comic Con and San Francisco Comic Con festivals.

And (fingers crossed) you might want to make room on your calendars for this year’s Best of the 48 Hour Film Project events — Richmond’s will be at 3:00 p.m. on July 30 (at the Grace Street Theater), and DC’s at 7:30 p.m. on August 4 (at the AFI Silver Theatre. No promises, of course, but we have hope…

As usual, check out our current listing of upcoming Tohubohu screenings (with festival links) below, and we’ll be back in touch before long!
